Superior Asphalt, Inc. manufactures every ton of asphalt we provide our customers at our locally owned Dutton, Michigan asphalt manufacturing plant. We are in complete control over the quality of each mix design. We test every batch on-site to ensure the asphalt best suits your specific asphalt construction project specifications. Superior Asphalt supplies asphalt material to contractors, municipalities, and utility companies all across West Michigan.
What makes us genuinely unique is we provide asphalt material all year. We understand that some repairs can't wait for ideal weather conditions, especially in West Michigan. We manufacture our specialized, recycled winter hot mix asphalt in early spring and throughout the winter. This WHMA is available for pick up and delivery at two locations: Downtown Grand Rapids Headquarters, located at 669 Century Avenue S.W., or our Dutton Plant, located at 6900 East Paris Industrial Court S.E. We also supply UPM, "The Good Stuff," which has earned the reputation for being the best cold patch available. At Superior, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest quality asphalt material to meet various paving and maintenance applications.
Hot Mix asphalt
Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or gravel bound together by 5% asphalt cement, a product of crude oil. Asphalt cement is heated and combined with the aggregate at a HMA facility. The Hot Mix Asphalt is loaded into trucks for transport to the paving site. The trucks dump the Hot Mix Asphalt into hoppers located at the front of a paver. The asphalt is placed and compacted using a heavy roller, which is driven over the asphalt. Traffic is generally permitted on the pavement as soon as it is properly compacted and cooled.

Our top of the line Hot Mix Asphalt is available year round. During the summer months, we collect and store millings and any unused quantities of our specially formulated Hot Mix Asphalt from each job site. During the winter months we recycle this material to make a one of a kind, Hot Mix Asphalt which we make available to our customers as a pothole repair alternative to cold patch. If you have a pothole at least two inches deep and dry, our Winter Hot Mix will hold longer than any cold patch option available on the market.
